Euphoria
Left Boston at 4pm on Tuesday 5/25. I thought biking through Boston during rush hour with a fully loaded touring bike would be tricky, but I hardly felt any additional weight in my legs. I think this was due to the euphoria if being free from all attachments for the foreseeable future.
I biked a route that I have biked many times, across the new bridge to Charlestown, and up 99, and onto the new bike path by Metrorock. I took that path to Lincoln ave, and then got on the Danvers Rail Trail, a little too early. It was getting dark so I camped in the Ipswich River Wildlife Preserve. I saw a racoon while I was sitting on an esker eating nuts. My tent was pretty close to both the road and the trail, so I didn't sleep very well.
I got up at 7am and continued on the rail trail. I ate at the Agawam Diner in Rowlely, which was nice, then took 133 to 1A. I got to Salisbury Beach and the first person asked me where I was going, to which I replied Seattle. Then I went onto the beach and put my bike in the ocean.
I biked on 1A through all the NH beaches to Portsmouth, and ate a burrito at Dos Amigos. I crossed the bridge on Rt.1 and then headed NW along the Maine side of the river. I attempted to camp in a state park but there was nothing flat and lots of bugs. Then I made it to Rt.4 and attempted to camp near the Berwick Academy, but there was nothing out of sight.
Then I saw a Freemasons Temple and figured nobody would be there, and it was also adjacent to a golf course, so I slept between those two properties. I slept much better that night, although in the morning I found a golf ball 6 feet from my tent.
