Show Me How To Say No To This
Woke up around 9am in the tent with the wood stove at the loj. Re-packed my panniers after hiking yesterday. Put everything on my bicycled, said goodbye to Mike and Jessi and biked down the loj road.
On the way to Gorham, Mike drove by me and Jessi handed me a donut out the window without stopping. I hope that happens more.
Stopped at WMC. The Madison Spring Hut summer crew were all meeting there just prior to their first pack up Valley Way. One of the first year members estimated that it would him 2 hours to pack Valley Way. Good Luck!
Got on Presidential Rail Trail in that parking lot where ATVs and Snowmobiles always park. This rail trail was awesome! It goes under Rt.2 by the big hill, and takes a much lower route to Pinkham B road. Good trail to know about. Then it continues by Appalachia, to Castle Ravine trailhead, and onwards to 115b, which is where I stopped. (Seriously awesome rail trail.) I met a woman on it with 2 Newfoundland dogs. I told her I had been staying in Shelburne at Northastern's loj and she told me she'd been there and her husband was an alumni! I think her name was Wendy.
115b to Jefferson was hilly. Jefferson to Lancaster was hilly. I stopped at Lancaster House of Pizza at 5pm and ate a steak sub. As I was packing up my bicycle, in the rain (it had rained most of the afternoon), a young woman, who had all her teeth, came up to me and asked me where I was headed. I said, "West."
"What does that mean?"
- "Seattle"
"Do you need anything?"
- "No, I think I'm good"
"Like a shower or anything?"
- "Nah"
"So where are you going now?"
- "Newport VT"
"How do you get there?"
- "Up rt.3 and then across 105"
"Okay"
- "Bye!"
About 3 minutes after I rode away, I realized that I turned down an unsolicited offer from a young woman to take a shower, to instead go camping in the rain by myself. So if you ever think you've got no game, remember that I'm out there somewhere...
